North Carolina Museum of Art launches bilingual in-gallery kiosk with Urban Insight and 43 annotations

The North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) sought to enhance visitor engagement by replacing traditional static labels with interactive digital kiosks. They needed a flexible, scalable solution for their galleries that offered deep artifact exploration, bilingual content, and integration with their existing WordPress infrastructure, all within a fixed budget and tight timeline. They engaged Urban Insight to address this challenge.

Urban Insight designed and implemented a custom bilingual Annotated Image Viewer as a WordPress plugin. This solution allowed NCMA staff to easily manage interactive content, enabling features like magnification, 43 multilingual annotations per artifact, and embeddable code for reuse. The project successfully transformed in-gallery interpretation by providing a much higher volume of information and enabling deeper visual exploration for visitors, all while being efficiently managed through the museum's CMS.
