A Upstatement Case Study
The Harvard Law Review, a prestigious law journal, faced the challenge of declining print subscriptions and a website that was no longer a destination for readers. They partnered with Upstatement to redesign their site, which lacked any photography due to its 127-year tradition, into a beautiful, responsive platform that would re-establish it as a place for reading and browsing.
Upstatement designed a typography-focused website using Hoefler Text as a modern replacement for the journal's traditional typeface. They created a system of illustrated patterns to add visual texture and implemented innovative, non-disruptive footnotes. The solution was built on WordPress using Upstatement's Timber plugin, resulting in a site that works beautifully across all devices and encourages more frequent browsing, helping the Harvard Law Review regain its place with legal professionals.
