How Shogun optimized their media pipeline and cut 86% of image bandwidth costs

Shogun, an ecommerce page-building platform, faced rapidly growing image-heavy pages that threatened page speed, customer experience, and engineering capacity. Serving 96 TB/month of optimized images (which would have been 476 TB unoptimized), Shogun needed a reliable, scalable image pipeline without diverting engineers to build and maintain it in-house, so they turned to Uploadcare and its Customer Experience Suite (including the Uploadcare File Uploader and Adaptive Delivery).

Uploadcare implemented a one-line JavaScript uploader, automated image compression and format conversion (Auto Format/WebP), and Adaptive Delivery features (responsive images, lazy loading, retina support). The result: ~80% image size reduction and at least an 80% cut in image bandwidth, up to 86% savings on image delivery costs, roughly $300K/year in infrastructure savings, over $200K in development cost avoidance, 17.5 staff-months saved, and 1.5x faster page loads — freeing Shogun’s team to focus on core product work.
