Evergy, a Midwestern utility, faced the challenge of unlocking more demand response capacity from its residential customers. Uplight implemented a Grid Resiliency program that dispatches all connected ecobee thermostats during peak hours using an opt-out approach to preserve customer comfort. This solution provided significant grid stability and served as a gateway for broader customer engagement. The results for Evergy were substantial, including a 23 MW peak load reduction and a 31% increase in dispatchable capacity during its first event, demonstrating Uplight's effective approach to demand management.
