El Paso Electric, a utility serving customers in Texas and New Mexico, faced the challenge of increasing summer temperatures that put significant strain on its grid. To avoid grid emergencies and boost resiliency during heatwaves, the utility partnered with vendor Uplight to implement its demand response solution.
Uplight's solution enabled El Paso Electric to build critical load flexibility during periods of triple-digit temperatures while maintaining customer comfort. The program successfully contributed to curtailing nearly 4 MW of energy, helping the utility meet its enrollment goals ahead of schedule and maximize customer retention during summer heat waves.
