Union Plus, a consumer‑benefits organization serving union members, launched a new mobile app that lets members pay their Union Plus credit card and identify union‑made products. Their challenge was to quickly inform and drive downloads among a specific group — 4,600 smartphone users — and do so on the device where the app would be installed, timed around the Fourth of July for added relevance.
Using Upland Mobile Messaging, Union Plus segmented its list to target only smartphone users and sent a timely Fourth‑of‑July text from the president promoting a “union‑made beer” list with a download link. Within two days more than 1,160 users downloaded the app — a 25% conversion rate — showing the power of targeted, timely SMS outreach.
