Upland Mobile Messaging worked with The New York State LGBT Health & Human Services Network (administered by The Center) to tackle low access to PrEP among young and minority populations. Research showed cost, drug–drug interaction concerns, eligibility confusion, and lack of awareness were preventing at‑risk people from getting the medication and care they needed.
The Network launched an SMS program using Upland’s Smart Campaigns to deliver targeted, myth‑busting messages, playful gif content, and a zip‑code provider locator so subscribers could find nearby PrEP services. About 90% of participants reported the campaign was helpful, many reported seeing a provider, and the program produced region‑specific data to guide further outreach.
