The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) used the Upland Mobile Messaging platform to rapidly raise emergency funds for the JFNA Israel Terror Relief Fund during the 2012 crisis. Their challenge was to collect donations quickly from supporters at rallies and online while allowing donors to give any amount (not be limited by the typical $10 cap of carrier-billed “text-to-donate” services).

JFNA launched a Text-to-Pledge campaign (text ISRAEL to short code 51818) that collected pledges via automated replies and completed gifts through follow-up calls. The program generated 78 pledges totaling $6,233 and resulted in 36 completed donations totaling $3,377 (a 46% pledge-to-donation conversion), with an average fulfilled gift of $96. Text-to-Pledge also captured donor contact information and outperformed a $10-per-text approach, demonstrating that texting—paired with timely follow-up—can quickly mobilize significant support.
