The Humane Society of the United States faced a tough year-end fundraising environment: economic headwinds and possible donor fatigue after an intense Prop 2 campaign threatened to depress giving. They needed a way to boost response rates and hit year-end goals despite these challenges.
Working with Watershed and Upland Mobile Messaging, HSUS sent a December 30 "text-to-call" message to 7,628 of ~12,000 mobile subscribers while holding 3,814 as a control. Although the text produced only a handful of inbound calls and no direct gifts, recipients of the text responded to the follow-up December 31 email at 0.55% versus 0.31% for the control — a statistically significant 77% lift — showing mobile outreach amplified email performance.
