A Upland Software Case Study
Sunstein, Kann, Murphy & Timbers LLP is a Boston-based intellectual property law firm with 47 attorneys that needed a reliable way to capture the large volume of paper documents in each case—correspondence, pleadings, evidence—and turn them into complete, searchable electronic case files accessible from any workstation. Collecting native electronic files and email was straightforward, but paper was a persistent bottleneck; the firm also wanted to leverage existing Canon and HP scanning devices and minimize user time at the MFP.
The firm deployed Omtool’s AccuRoute, which uses desktop-configured, printed “Intelligent Routing Sheets” (Embedded Directives) to automate scanning, conversion to searchable PDF/Word, routing, archiving and tracking. Implementation and staff training were quick, and today the firm processes over 400,000 pages a year into a centralized, mostly electronic case repository—reducing costs, eliminating paper hunting, and giving attorneys immediate, organized access to complete case files from virtually anywhere.
