Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) is a national nonprofit that educates high school students about climate science through in-school assemblies and encourages them to take action. ACE faced the challenge of motivating teenagers—who overwhelmingly prefer texting—to move from inspiration to action in a way that was immediate, measurable, and scalable.
ACE launched the Do One Thing (DOT) SMS campaign—students text DOT to 30644 at assemblies, provide basic info, and receive targeted tips, local opportunities, and program invites; presenters use a 30‑second opt-in challenge and school coordination to maximize sign-ups. The program drove more than 40,000 opt‑ins in 2014–15, with an average opt‑in rate of 7.82% and click‑through rate of 1.44%, provided presenter performance data and audience feedback, and became a primary tool for ACE’s acquisition and engagement efforts.
