Lifesum is a nutrition and wellness app with over 5 million members that monetizes through a “Gold” premium membership. Facing intense competition during the New Year’s resolutions period, the company needed to identify and acquire the most loyal users to maximize return on ad spend.
By switching to Localytics for retention cohort analysis, Lifesum tracked retention by daily, weekly and monthly cohorts and filtered by custom dimensions like age and BMI. The team discovered users aged 26–50 had 16% higher month-one retention than those under 26, shifted acquisition to target that segment with Facebook campaigns, and saw results: 82% month-over-month growth in app sessions and a 119% increase in in‑app Gold purchases.
