Travers Smith needed a better way to search across a growing number of knowledge stores, document libraries, intranet content, and emails after a software upgrade left its existing search functionality no longer working properly. Fee earners in particular struggled to find important emails and other information quickly, so the firm looked for a new enterprise search approach. BA Insight was selected as the vendor to help address the problem.

Travers Smith implemented TotalSearch, a SharePoint-based search system built with BA Insight technologies, to search across knowledge, precedents, client matter documents, file shares, emails, intranet content, and external systems such as Practical Law. The firm said the system made everyday searching simpler and had clear support from associates for helping them find things faster, although the efficiency gains were not yet quantifiable in a meaningful way.
