A UpKeep Case Study
Black Rock Coffee Bar, a growing regional coffee chain with about 60 corporately owned locations across Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Texas, faced a scalability problem: maintenance requests were handled by ad-hoc texts and calls that got lost as the company expanded. To professionalize and centralize maintenance, Black Rock Coffee Bar chose UpKeep’s mobile-first work order and maintenance management solution, implemented beginning in 2020.
UpKeep was rolled out starting in Portland and expanded into fast-growing Arizona stores, with QR-code-enabled work orders, asset barcoding, multisite dashboards and formal training for managers. The result: faster, visible communication and significant time and cost savings — teams caught leaks and had plumbers dispatched the same night to avert flooding, preventive maintenance (e.g., biannual servicing) increased equipment uptime in hot summers, inventory tracking simplified year-end accounting, and an asset history now informs better construction and design choices. UpKeep’s platform made facility maintenance more organized, accountable and scalable for future growth.
