Unit Trust of Samoa - Customer Case Study

The Unit Trust of Samoa (UTOS) is a government-backed investment vehicle serving local and overseas Samoans. Facing increasing cyber risk and the need to keep investors’ personally identifiable information safe—including assets managed by third parties—UTOS adopted the UpGuard platform, using UpGuard Vendor Risk and UpGuard BreachSight to benchmark and continuously improve its cybersecurity posture in line with Samoa’s National Cybersecurity Strategy.

Using UpGuard, UTOS now continuously monitors third- and fourth-party vendors and its own external security posture, combining automated security ratings with questionnaire-based assessments; the program currently watches 4 vendors, 70+ unique vectors for leaks and exploits, and 3 digital assets. UpGuard delivered more rigorous vendor procurement and faster remediation of third‑party risk, giving UTOS granular, layered supply-chain insight so the fund can focus on investing while keeping investor data secure.
