A Universal Robots Case Study
Task Force Tips, a manufacturer of firefighting equipment, wanted to improve machine tending in its machining operations while keeping spindle time high, maintaining consistent product quality, and freeing personnel for more complex work. Working with Universal Robots, the company explored collaborative automation after finding its earlier dedicated robots were too inflexible to move between machines.
Universal Robots implemented vision-guided UR5 and UR10 cobots to tend CNC machines, with robots flexibly deployed across tasks and integrated with the production flow. The result was a major reduction in staffing needs from seven operators to three, about 21 hours of unattended robot operation per shift, elimination of many downtime events, and a payback period of just 34 days, while also improving part quality and enabling staff to take on higher-value work.
