Usiminas, a market leader in flat-rolled steel in Brazil, faced challenges with an outdated metal coil marking system that resulted in high maintenance costs and long processing times. Seeking a faster and more precise solution, the company turned to Universal Robots and implemented a UR10e collaborative robot to modernize their paint application process.

The solution from Universal Robots involved a UR10e cobot that automated the painting of text, QR codes, and drawings onto heavy metal coils. This implementation achieved annual paint savings of R$130,000, improved workplace safety by removing workers from a manual and hazardous task, and marked over 100,000 coils. The compact system also occupies less than one square meter of factory space.
