User-Friendly Robot Reduces Risk Of Work-Related Injuries

Clamcleat, a British cleat manufacturer, faced a challenge with repetitive strain injury (RSI) risk from manual clipping and limited production flexibility. To address this, the company turned to Universal Robots and a UR5 collaborative robot to help automate parts of its injection moulding and clipping process.

Universal Robots implemented a small, easy-to-program cobot that transferred uncut parts to clippers, signaled when to cut, and could also be used for machine tending. The solution reduced RSI risk, improved production flexibility, and allowed Clamcleat to combine clipping with quality checking and packing; the reported payback period was 7–10 months.
