UR5 Cobots Address Labor Shortages and Increase Packaging Production by 30 Percent at Nippon Zettoc

NIPPON ZETTOC CO. LTD., a Japanese OEM toothpaste manufacturer, faced labor shortages in its packaging and box-erecting operations while needing to maintain stable production. To address this, the company turned to Universal Robots and its UR5 cobots to help keep the production line running despite staffing constraints.

Universal Robots’ UR5 cobots were implemented on the inner-box packing, outer-box packing, and box erecting lines, with NIPPON ZETTOC designing and assembling much of the system in-house. The result was a 30% increase in hourly packaging output, a 50% reduction in staffing requirements on the inner-packaging line, improved flexibility to handle varying production demand, and an expected ROI of about two years.
