UR10 Cobots Optimize the Assembly Line at Ford Romania

Ford Motor Company’s Craiova, Romania plant needed a way to boost engine assembly throughput while reducing repetitive, ergonomically difficult work for employees. To meet those goals, Ford turned to Universal Robots and its UR10 collaborative robot, looking for a solution with a small footprint, easy implementation, and the ability to work safely alongside people.

Universal Robots deployed four UR10 cobots at the plant, with three integrated into production to grease camshaft followers, fill engines with oil, and inspect for leaks using UV light and a Cognex vision camera. The result was faster, more efficient production with employees freed from monotonous tasks, quick integration into the line, and a flexible system that could be adapted or moved as needed.
