UR Robots Offer Flexibility Hard To Match

LEAX Group, a Swedish contract manufacturer, needed an automation solution that could keep up with frequent changes in factory layout, product mix, and even production sites. The company wanted something flexible, easy to program, space-efficient, and suitable for quick ramp-ups across its metal and machining operations. Universal Robots’ UR10 collaborative robot was selected to meet these needs.

Universal Robots implemented three UR10 cobots for machine tending tasks, including changing bits in a shaving machine and loading/unloading two gear-cutting machines with a three-fingered gripper. The result was a highly flexible automation resource that can be moved between LEAX Group’s 11 factories as needed, improving production flow and space usage while future-proofing the business for product changes. LEAX Group also estimated a payback period of 18 months.
