UR+ platform delivers access to automate legacy machines with collaborative robots

All Axis Machining, a small metal machining company in Dallas, Texas, struggled with labor shortages and downtime on its legacy equipment, which had no easy interface for traditional industrial robots. The company turned to Universal Robots and its UR10 cobot, along with the UR+ platform, to find a flexible way to automate old machines without adding safety fencing or giving up floor space.

Universal Robots provided a cobot-based solution that integrated with All Axis Machining’s machines through UR+ and related accessories, enabling automation for CNC machine tending, sanding, deburring, part inspection, laser marking, and wire EDM. The results were significant: spindle uptime increased from about 8 hours to 20 effective hours per day, one job was delivered 2.5 months early, ROI was about four months, and the company reported a 60% profit increase on that job alone.
