A Universal Robots Case Study
KOYO ELECTRONICS INDUSTRIES, part of the JTEKT group, has been developing and manufacturing electronic equipment since 1955. To handle growing demand for high-quality in-vehicle electronics, PLCs, and rotary encoders, the company needed to improve the productivity of its touch panel reaction testing process without compromising strict quality standards. Universal Robots’ UR3 cobot was selected to help address the bottleneck in the post-inspection process.
Universal Robots implemented the UR3 cobot to automate touch panel quality inspection by pressing styluses onto panels and signaling OK/NG results, improving consistency and reducing errors. The solution required only minimal safety investment and no safety fence, and KOYO ELECTRONICS INDUSTRIES built the system in-house. As a result, daily work time dropped from 10 hours to 8 hours, staffing for the inspection step was reduced from two people to one, and productivity increased by 31%.
