Universal Robots Help Automate The Aerospace Industry At Whippany Actuation Systems

Whippany Actuation Systems, a U.S. aerospace and defense manufacturer, needed to quickly boost production of specialized electro-mechanical parts without taking on the cost of a new CNC machine or outsourcing work. The company wanted to keep production in-house and looked for a flexible automation solution from Universal Robots, using a UR10 cobot for CNC machine tending.

Universal Robots implemented a UR10 collaborative robot with a Robotiq 2F-85 adaptive gripper to run CNC tending with straightforward integration to the machine controls. The system enabled unattended overnight and additional shifts, increasing production capacity and throughput while improving margins and employee experience; Whippany Actuation Systems expected ROI in under 12 months and said the solution also opened the door to bringing more work in-house.
