A Universal Robots Case Study
Comprehensive Logistics, a contract manufacturer in Ohio, needed a way to perform mission-critical quality inspection on automotive engine sub-assemblies, specifically to verify that steering-gear wire harness connectors were fully seated and locked. Manual inspection was only about 80% effective, and earlier camera- and probe-based approaches struggled with repeatability and access to tight spaces.
Universal Robots provided a UR10 collaborative robot equipped with a vision camera, implemented by Automation Zone, to inspect each sub-assembly quickly and repeatably. The solution achieved 100% quality, ran reliably for two years in two- and three-shift operations, and helped deliver a fast ROI—about four months on the robot hardware and around seven months for the full application.
