The UR5 Makes All Employees Robot Experts

Nordic Sugar, one of Europe’s largest sugar factories, needed a more flexible and user-friendly way to automate the analysis of raw material samples. The company was looking for a robot that employees could easily adjust themselves without repeatedly calling in expensive specialists, and turned to Universal Robots and its UR5 cobot.

Universal Robots implemented three UR5 collaborative robots to scan barcodes and move sugar sample containers between scales and filters using a pneumatic gripper and integrated barcode scanner. The solution let Nordic Sugar’s staff reprogram and reposition the robots in-house, improved flexibility, and delivered a fast payback period of 124 days.
