REPLAC-BM, a Czech producer of pigment pastes, needed a way to improve the precision and repeatability of its paint-mixing process, where even a 0.001 gram difference could affect the final result. The company wanted to reduce human error while developing mixing formulas and testing new samples, without replacing its technicians.

Universal Robots supplied a UR5 cobot to work with a micro dispenser and spectrophotometer, automating steps such as moving cups, applying lids, inserting color cards, and measuring finished hues. The solution made formula development more accurate and repeatable, with REPLAC-BM reporting the robot was 10 times faster than an average technician and enabled higher-quality deliveries, all without needing larger facilities.
