A Universal Robots Case Study
BJ-Gear, a world-leading manufacturer of gear solutions in Denmark, wanted to strengthen competitiveness and keep production local by optimizing and automating as much of its process as possible. However, the company had been hesitant to invest in robots because traditional systems were too expensive and had payback times that were hard to justify. Universal Robots’ flexible lightweight cobots, including the UR5 and UR10, offered a more economical alternative.
Universal Robots implemented four robotic arms at BJ-Gear to automate painting, deburring, stamping, and machine tending across multiple machines. The result was higher productivity, more uniform quality, improved working conditions, and the ability to grow without adding staff. BJ-Gear reported a payback period of less than one year for the robots, with one UR5 freeing an employee for other tasks and one robot enabling 100-piece unattended production runs.
