Robotics Adding Value To Cascina Italia’s Picking, Packaging And Shelling Line – One Egg At A Time

Cascina Italia, a food and beverage company processing millions of eggs per day, needed a way to improve flexibility and operational efficiency while relieving employees from strenuous packaging work in a space-constrained production environment. Traditional automation was considered too costly and difficult to implement safely alongside workers. Universal Robots provided the UR5 cobot to help address these challenges.

Universal Robots, working with Alumotion, implemented a UR5 collaborative robot on one of Cascina Italia’s 24 production line output stations to prepare boxes for large-scale distribution. The fenceless cobot works side-by-side with employees, handling packaging tasks for around 1.5 million eggs per day and reducing repetitive manual labor. The solution improved productivity and employee well-being, with a reported payback period of 365 days.
