Robot Technology Speeds Up Assembly Of Car Seats

Lear Corporation, a global automotive supplier, needed a highly flexible just-in-time assembly solution for car seat production in a tight manufacturing space. The company also wanted a small, mobile robot that could work safely alongside employees without guarding and be easy for staff with limited robot experience to program. Universal Robots’ UR5 cobot fit these requirements.

Universal Robots implemented the UR5 on Lear Corporation’s production line to screw together seat and rest frames, read transponders, and inspect for missing screws. The cobot completes around 8,500 drilling actions per day, prevents faulty seats from moving down the conveyor, and helps improve both production speed and product reliability.
