Robot Technology Improves Safety And Increases Job Satisfaction

Etalex, a Canadian shelving system manufacturer, needed a flexible automation solution for multiple production cycles while working in a very tight space in front of a brake press. The company also wanted to reduce the safety risks and physical strain of manually unloading the press for 8 hours a day. Universal Robots provided the cobot technology, using a UR10 collaborative robot for the application.

Universal Robots implemented a UR10 to unload the brake press with pneumatic suction cups and stack parts automatically, eliminating the need for protective fencing in the constrained area. The solution reduced manual loading work from 8 hours a day to about 1 hour of inspection and coil changes, freed up 7 labor hours per day, improved workplace safety, and delivered an estimated 12-month payback. Etalex also reported a 40% increase in sales, with employees reassigned to more rewarding tasks.
