A Universal Robots Case Study
Multi-Wing, a manufacturer of axial fan solutions for ventilation applications, needed to increase production at its Multi-Wing CZ facility despite having limited space on the shop floor. The company wanted a small, fast, versatile robot that could operate without safety guarding, and turned to Universal Robots for a UR5 collaborative robot to fit the confined workspace.
Universal Robots implemented the UR5 to automate an automated lathe workflow, moving castings in and out of the lathe and then handing them to a broaching machine without safety barriers. The result was a 10–20% reduction in unit production costs, 336 additional production hours per year, and annual savings of nearly 7,000 euros, along with faster 70% feed acceleration and a 10-second improvement in part replacement time.
