Food Industry Palletizing Cobot With Vision System Works In Tight Quarters

Nortura, the Norwegian meat producer, needed a way to optimize palletizing in very tight quarters while staying within a limited budget. The company wanted a flexible system that could palletize continuously without stopping the production line, handle boxes of different sizes and weights, and fit into a much smaller footprint than a traditional caged palletizing cell.

Universal Robots, working through integrator Rocketfarm AS, implemented a UR10 collaborative robot with a ceiling-mounted vision system and vacuum gripper for automated palletizing. The solution used only about one-fifth of the space of a conventional system, let Nortura stack an average of 20 pallets and 1,700 boxes per day, improved workplace ergonomics by reducing heavy lifting, and delivered a payback period of less than one year on a single shift.
