Flexible Ur10 Boosts Production With Robotics, Orkla Foods Sverige, Kumla

Orkla Foods Sweden, specifically its Kumla factory, needed an automation solution for packing vanilla cream bags into cartons. The company wanted a system that could work in a network with other production machines, be easy to move and program, and operate safely alongside employees without extensive safety installations. Universal Robots’ UR10 cobot was selected to address these needs.

Universal Robots implemented the UR10 to automate carton packing, where it works with a carton erector, carton sealer, and filling machine. The result was a more stable and economical operation, with heavy lifting and repetitive tasks removed from operators. The payback time was about six months, and the cobot’s collaborative design allowed it to stop when bumped, eliminating the need for safety guarding.
