Flexible Cobot Solution Boosts Capacity and Job Satisfaction at Swedish Machine Shop

FT-Produktion, a Swedish metal and machining shop serving customers in industries like automotive, construction, and furniture, faced rising order volumes and difficulty finding qualified labor. To boost capacity without adding staff, the company turned to Universal Robots and a flexible cobot-based machine tending setup using a UR5e cobot, OnRobot grippers, and an EasyRobotics ProFeeder.

Universal Robots helped FT-Produktion automate CNC machine tending so one operator could keep three to four machines running, reduce repetitive manual work, and handle larger orders faster. The solution cut cycle time by 12 seconds per task and saves FT-Produktion about 500 hours on a 150,000-part production run, with the investment expected to pay back in just nine months.
