Collaborative Robots increase Productivity by 90%, Delivering 24x7 Manufacturing Capability at Carl Zeiss India

Carl Zeiss India, part of Carl Zeiss, faced challenges with cumbersome manual loading systems at its Metrology Tech Centre in Bangalore. The setup was inflexible when production lines changed, required operator presence, and limited productivity because one operator could only run one machine at a time. Universal Robots provided a UR5 cobot to help automate these repetitive production tasks and support around-the-clock manufacturing.

Universal Robots’ UR5 was integrated with three metrology machines — a CMM, a contour machine, and a non-contact measuring machine — allowing one cobot to tend multiple processes in a single cycle. The result was a jump in machine utilization from 50% to over 90%, along with flexible line changes that could be made in just a day or two and enabled 24x7 operations.
