Cobots From Universal Robots Carry Out Monotonous Work and Help Keep Production in Norway

Engmark Meteor AS, a Norwegian manufacturer of traditional griddles, needed to keep production in Oslo while competing with low-cost overseas producers. The company also wanted to improve working conditions for its small workforce by reducing the heavy, repetitive lifting involved in handling 10-kilogram products. Universal Robots cobots, including UR5 and UR10 models, were introduced to help automate these tasks.

Universal Robots implemented six collaborative robots to handle machine tending, pick-and-place, cleaning, packaging, and palletizing throughout production. The cobots reduced physical strain on employees, improved workflow, and helped Engmark Meteor maintain local manufacturing. The company reports that if a cobot is kept busy, it can pay for itself in a few months, and the flexible, easy-to-program system has supported production for years without requiring safety caging.
