A Universal Robots Case Study
B-Loony Ltd, a UK SME manufacturer of bespoke promotional products, was under pressure to boost productivity and efficiency while coping with rising labour costs, short lead times, and highly customized, high-mix/low-volume orders. The company needed a flexible automation solution that could fit into a limited production space and help maintain its competitiveness in the UK and abroad, and it turned to Universal Robots’ UR3 cobots.
Universal Robots implemented six UR3 collaborative robots to handle balloon inflation, sewing bunting, and assembling food flags alongside staff. The result was a major productivity lift and cost reduction: B-Loony increased food flag output from 250,000 to 15 million per year, now produces more than 1,200 miles of bunting annually, and achieved a payback period of just nine months on its initial cobot investment.
