A Universal Robots Case Study
ASSA ABLOY Romania, a global leader in door-opening solutions, faced a growing labor shortage in Bucharest, along with pressure to maintain high product quality, manage varied product configurations, and keep manufacturing costs competitive. The company needed a flexible automation approach for multiple machine-tending and finishing tasks, and evaluated collaborative robots from Universal Robots as part of its automation strategy.
Universal Robots supplied four UR3 and six UR5 cobots, used in applications including welding, stamping, riveting, screw driving, grinding, and machine tending. The robots delivered fast deployment, user-friendly programming, strong repeatability, and the flexibility to use both standard and custom end-effectors; ASSA ABLOY Romania estimates the cobots produce the equivalent of 10 human workers, with a 3-year ROI in the broader automation plan.
