A Universal Robots Case Study
Ferdinand Wagner, a metal and machining company in Europe, needed a reliable automation solution for high-volume welding and soldering of fragile parts. Its manual process for 500,000 to 600,000 components per year was costly, inconsistent, and difficult to plan, especially as product requirements changed seasonally. Universal Robots provided a UR5-based cobot solution to help address these production challenges.
Universal Robots, working with Faude Automisierungstechnik, implemented two UR5 robots to sort, weld, solder, and quality-check parts with precision. One robot prepared and tack-welded the components, while the other transferred them to high-frequency soldering and then into camera-based inspection. The system processes around 160 parts per hour, improves production efficiency and cost stability, and relieves employees from repetitive, strenuous tasks.
