A Univention Case Study
The Zentrum für Digitale Souveränität (ZenDiS), a competence center established by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, faced the challenge of creating a sovereign, open-source digital workplace for public administration. Their key project, openDesk, required the technical integration of various software solutions with a scalable identity management system that complied with strict German security standards. Univention was engaged to provide its identity and access management expertise and product.
Univention implemented its Nubus Identity & Access Management system as the core of the openDesk solution. This provided a central user portal with Single Sign-On, enabling seamless access to all integrated applications and ensuring technical interoperability between them. The solution, built on a containerized Kubernetes architecture, met all requirements for BSI baseline protection and the German Administrative Cloud Strategy, allowing public administrations to adopt the workplace with minimal effort while ensuring vendor independence and digital sovereignty.
