Univention Corporate Server Replaces Microsoft Server 2003 and Manages Windows Clients

Wick Machinery, an Austrian manufacturer of filling and capping machines, needed to modernize its aging Windows 2003 server, centralize user and group management, and improve mail, backup, and external access security. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) was chosen to replace the old infrastructure and provide a more flexible and secure IT environment for the company’s 15 employees across two sites.

Univention implemented an Active Directory migration using UCS’s AD Takeover function, with UCS serving as the central domain and identity management platform. The solution also included Zarafa for groupware and mail, SEP Sesam for backup, and a ZyXEL firewall with VPN plus Kaspersky Endpoint Security for protection; the result was a smooth migration, continued Outlook use, improved mobility and remote access, and a more stable, cost-efficient, centrally managed infrastructure.
