Setup of a Collaborative Workspace for a Globally Operating Team with UCS as the Central IDM System

SOLARKIOSK AG, a globally operating renewable energy company with teams in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Germany, needed a standardized way to manage a heterogeneous mix of Windows, Apple, and Linux desktops in one domain. The company also wanted a central identity management system plus collaborative tools for groupware, private cloud file sharing, project management, and knowledge management.

Univention implemented a collaborative workspace built around Univention Corporate Server (UCS), using virtualized services for central identity management, file and print, groupware, ownCloud, and OpenProject, with Zimbra and OpenVPN support. Later, the setup was extended with a cloud environment and a UCS domain controller slave for continuous replication. The result was a secure, centrally administered workspace that let more than 250 users collaborate from anywhere, with reliable performance and no need for capacity expansion so far.
