KiKxxl - Customer Case Study

KiKxxl, a communication server provider with 1,900 employees across five sites, needed a way to automate user-rights assignment, reduce the burden of user and group administration, and integrate key services like mail, chat, office license management, and telephony into central resource management. As the company grew rapidly, its IT team was reaching capacity and faced increasing security and compliance demands, making manual administration too risky and time-consuming. Univention’s UCS platform, including the Univention Directory Manager (UDM), was introduced to provide centralized identity and infrastructure management.

Univention implemented Univention Corporate Server on one Primary Directory Node, four Replica Directory Nodes, and nine Backup Directory Nodes, with UDM customized to automate access-control workflows end to end. The result was fully automatic management of about 6,200 rights groups, granular permission control for more than 200 servers and 1,600 thin clients, and automatic removal of access rights when employees changed roles or left. Univention also helped KiKxxl add e-mail whitelisting controls and improve transparency, compliance, and security across the IT environment.
