A Univention Case Study

Preview of the Backwelt Pilz Case Study

Implementation of a Standardized E-Mail and Corporate-Wide Backup System with Kopano and SEP

Backwelt Pilz, a manufacturer of frozen bakery products, was running an outdated and heterogeneous IT environment with multiple e-mail applications, two separate backup solutions, and infrastructure that needed modernization. Univention helped the company consolidate and standardize its IT landscape, including the migration of services to Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and a move toward a central e-mail and backup setup with Kopano and SEP sesam.

Using Univention’s UCS as the platform, Backwelt Pilz virtualized on Proxmox, migrated its groupware from Zarafa to Kopano, rolled out Kopano Desk company-wide, and implemented SEP sesam as a centralized backup solution with support for granular restores. The result was a more secure, flexible, and highly available environment with automatic failover, centralized management, and improved disaster recovery; the company reports a major increase in data security and says the new solution “pays off daily,” delivering security and flexibility for the future.
