Preview of the City of Norderstedt Case Study

City of Norderstedt connects 21 schools and 8,000 pupils with Univention

The City of Norderstedt, a school authority for 21 schools, sought to modernize its IT infrastructure to create a digital classroom environment. Their challenge was to replace their previous in-house IT solutions with a centralized, flexible platform that offered high data protection standards and a preference for open source software. They partnered with Univention and selected its open source solution, UCS@school, to serve as the central school platform.

Univention implemented UCS@school to provide a holistic IT infrastructure managed from the town hall. The solution included a secure school WLAN with youth protection filters and integrated Nextcloud with Collabora Online Office. This resulted in a streamlined administration that unburdened teachers and ensured equal technical conditions for all 8,000 pupils and 1,000 teachers. The project successfully created a foundation for future expansions, including plans for video conferencing and a digital class register.
