A Unitrends Case Study
Waimānalo Health Center is a nonprofit, federally qualified community health clinic on Oʻahu that provides primary and preventive care to Native Hawaiians and the medically underserved. With a small, chronically understaffed IT team relying on nearly 20 years of tape backups, the center faced mounting challenges meeting compliance and recovery windows, scaling storage, enabling deduplication, and establishing a reliable offsite disaster-recovery strategy.
WHC replaced tape with Unitrends Recovery Series 822 and 823 appliances (the 822 as a hot-target to be moved off-site), chosen for ease of use, compliance features, and support. The new solution protected virtualized Windows servers, physical Linux servers, virtual desktops and IBM blades, providing ransomware and accidental-delete protection plus full DR. In one incident a VDI Linux server failed at 9 PM Friday and was fully restored within an hour—resulting in zero downtime for Saturday clinic staff.
