A Unitrends Case Study
The Virginia Lottery, an independent agency that directs all profits to K–12 education, struggled with a fragmented backup stack—multiple point products (Symantec Backup Exec, vRanger, AppAssure, AvePoint/MetaLogix and others) produced inconsistent backups, lacked tape support and a central console, and generated unreadable reports that hampered recovery-time reporting and business continuity planning.
In March 2016 the Lottery standardized on Unitrends Backup virtual appliances, RXDA removable tape drives and Unitrends Recovery Assurance, replacing its disparate tools. The single solution protected physical Windows and Unix servers and virtual machines, delivered automated RPO/RTO testing and clear, audit-ready reports, restored reliable backups (including tape support), and simplified management and support.
