Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO) is a public electric utility serving over 100,000 homes and businesses across nine Louisiana parishes. After virtualizing their datacenter with Nutanix and Cisco UCS, their legacy LTO4 tape backups became too slow, labor-intensive, and unverifiable, leaving them without a reliable off-site protection or efficient way to meet backup windows.

SLEMCO deployed a Unitrends Recovery 833 appliance for on‑site backups of physical and virtual servers, adopted Unitrends Forever Cloud for cost‑effective archiving, and is rolling out Unitrends DRaaS to spin up five VMs for disaster recovery. The solution delivered faster restores, cloud archiving, DR capability, and smoother backup operations; while no full server restores have been needed yet, SLEMCO is building an on‑site DR rack to test recoveries and reports strong vendor support and improved peace of mind.
