The County Federal Credit Union, serving over 17,000 members in Aroostook County, needed to replace aging IBM tape backups as member growth and larger data volumes lengthened backup windows and increased NCUA audit scrutiny of business continuity and data protection. IT Manager Matthew Cox sought a scalable, enterprise-grade solution that reduced administrative overhead and met regulatory expectations.

In September 2016 the credit union deployed a Unitrends Recovery Series 603 appliance, replicating critical assets to a Hyper‑V Core server and backing up to a Recovery Series 608 to enable backups during business hours and satisfy auditors. When a ransomware attack occurred shortly after installation, the team completed a full restore within hours with zero data loss; they plan to add Unitrends Cloud DRaaS to further strengthen disaster recovery and audit readiness.
